Manna News for June-July 2007
We now have a valuable web link Manna Profile, thanks to the work of Ruth Friesen, Saskatoon, Sask. Canada. Please let us know if you cannot open this web site.
KENYA - Manna Publications has a new representative in Kenya. His name is Joab O. After his recent visit to Kenya, A. Yakobo, Manna Representative in Kampala, Uganda wrote: "I have known Joab since 1992 and even attended the same Bible College in Kenya, although he was their one year behind me.
He and his wife Grace live in the Town of Naivasha, about an hour's drive to Nairobi. Joab has lived in other towns of Kenya - Nakuru, Kisumu, Nairobi, Thinka, Bomet, etc. I believe his commitment and network in many parts of the country places him in a very good position to carry out this work. Joab and his wife Grace are working partly as chaplains in one of the High Schools in Naivasha town, but they are also involved in evangelistic outreach in other places."
FRENCH for Africa - David Page wrote:
Good news! This year we received donations totaling 600 pounds for printing French books for Africa.
Good news! We have just sent money to Mali to print 1000 copies of the French ed. of Genesis 1.
Good news! We hope to reach French-speaking migrants in west Uganda with gospel literature.
Good news! I have contacted a retired doctor who will be taking Manna book samples in French and English to Cameroon in November to assess interest.
Good news! Madame Bonnaz has obtained good quotations from a printer in Brazzaville to enable printing of French editions to proceed in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Sad news! Feedback from Burundi tells us that French commentaries are not popular there so we will proceed instead with the local Kirundi language editions.
Sad news! Delivery of French books from Ghana to Niger and Burkina Faso has been delayed.
Good news! I hope to visit DRC in Jan 2008 and have a friend who will go to Brazzaville with me.
Good News! Dr Tom Wright, Presbyterian Doctor/missionary in Senegal sent a check for $25 to cover cost of sample books and said he will use Manna Bible study commentaries in French in his Bible classes. Pray that God will provide a person in Senegal to be a Manna Distributor."
CHILDREN'S READ-and-COLOR BOOKS - We are just launching into a series of small Read-and-Color books for children. The books are designed to teach literacy-reading/hand skills/Bible all at the same time. Some people refer to the books as "shell books." That is because the English text can be translated into any language and that language printed in the books. We already have several languages translated and the books ready for printing.
In foreign countries crayons are expensive, so we also need teams going overseas to carry crayons to places where the books will be used.
Jim Norman in UK is doing a great job in helping set the type for these books and make up samples and Susan Lawrence, a retired Reading Specialist who lives in Harrisonburg, has agreed to help with the project.
We have outlines for several titles. Lorna is anxious to produce some Bible stories in this format, but needs artists, so please let us know if
you or anyone you know would be interested. If you know of church teams going overseas this summer who might make contact with children's schools or orphanages where the Read-and-Color books could be used, please e-mail us.
Read-and-Color books are black on white 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 and very cheap to print, $100 will cover the printing of 200-300 books in most countries.
These little books will provide something for children who have no books. And they will help to introduce Manna Bible study commentaries in places where we are not known.
MANNA (USA) - George Wynn had the time of his life visiting the Manna Publications team in UK in May. Now he is getting down to the more
serious work of making Manna Publications known in churches in the USA. If your church or Missions' Committee is open to hearing more of what Manna is doing, please let him know.
Thank you again for your prayers and material support. You can now send checks payable to "Manna Publications (USA) Inc." to 13692 Winding Lane, Broadway, VA 22815. You will receive a tax-deductible receipt for your contribution.
Every $ invested moves a Manna Representative closer to being a self-supporting publisher!
